Hokoen Matcha Houki(宝亀)

Hōkōen is a long-established tea producer based in Jōyō City, Kyoto Prefecture, with a history spanning more than 160 years. The company uses carefully selected tea leaves grown in some of Japan’s finest tea fields, including the renowned farms of Jōyō. Nurtured by the rich soil of the Kizu River, each leaf is crafted with care and the greatest expertise.
What makes Hōkōen exceptional today is its hands-on care at every stage of production—from growing and harvesting to blending and finishing—keeping the essence of Uji tea alive. By overseeing every step, they create the rich, distinctive flavor that defines Hōkōen quality and tradition.
Hōkōen's commitment is simple: to deliver a consistently high quality green tea.
Houki is a deliciously full-bodied koicha tea, rich in flavors and magical aromas offering an unforgettable experience. Its taste lingers in the mouth long after consumption. It is primarily a koicha tea, yet it’s also delicious as a usucha. It tolerates lower temperature water well, and is not prone to turning bitter. It is a more full-bodied and sweeter tea compared to the Koun, next on our list.
